The Demon Deacons will be looking to move past the tough loss against Florida State last week and build upon what the team did well. Despite the 26-19 loss, Dave Clawson’s squad outgained the Seminoles 367-270 and held Florida State freshman quarterback James Blackman to under 100 yards passing until his final attempt.
At one point in the first half, the Deacons led the Seminoles, 12-3, but an inability to close out the game cost Clawson a chance at a signature victory.

If you’ve paid attention to the college football landscape this season, you’d realize that Clemson is arguably the best team in the country. The Tigers seem to have what it takes to repeat as national champions — something that seemed improbable after last season.
Wake Forest comes into this Saturday at 4-1 and still in the thick of things in the ACC Atlantic. The Demon Deacons aren’t expected to make much noise in the division race this year, but if they are going to, they’ll have to pull off an upset versus Clemson.
Senior quarterback John Wolford is the team’s unquestionable leader of the offense. He has completed 63.2 percent of his passes for 947 yards, 8 touchdowns and 1 interception, but along with those numbers, he leads the squad with 332 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns.
He’s targeted redshirt freshman wide receiver Greg Dortch by far more than anybody else this year. Dortch has 30 receptions, which is more than twice as many as any other Demon Deacons wideout, 352 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns. Last week versus Florida State, Dortch caught 10 passes for 110 yards.
Kelly Bryant has been playing exceptionally well and he’s replaced Deshaun Watson better than anyone could have expected. Dabo Swinney has a talented squad on his hands yet again and he will need to avoid an upset on Saturday against an improved Wake Forest team.
The Demon Deacons have begun the season 4-1 with a 1-1 record in ACC play and they were arguably a couple plays away from 5-0 and an upset of Florida State. Can they put a scare into the Clemson Tigers as well?

Clemson rolls into this game having just beaten Virginia Tech on the road in what was the Tigers’ third victory against a Top 15 team this season. Clemson is the first team ever to beat three Top 15 squads in September.
Despite the stiff competition, the Tigers rank first in the ACC in both yards allowed per game and points allowed per contest. Wake Forest is actually second in the conference in points allowed, so it shouldn’t surprise anybody if we get a defensive struggle at Death Valley on Saturday.

The Tigers are known for running the ball effectively, averaging nearly 250 yards per game, but this is the perfect opportunity to let him sling the ball around a bit. Wake Forest has the nation’s 52nd-ranked defense, so it wouldn’t hurt to let him try to beat the Demon Deacons with his arm.
For Wake Forest, making Bryant uncomfortable in the pocket and forcing some ill-advised throws will be key. They’re already expecting him to burn the Demon Deacons with his legs, but in order for Wake Forest to have a shot, it needs to win the turnover battle and get to Bryant early and often. This isn’t going to be an easy task. Oh yeah, and protect John Wolford against that scary Clemson front.
